Pasos Plakotis

Paso Plakotis develops in the northern part of the area and follows the old Igoumenitsa-Ioannina National Road. The route starts from the junction of the National Road to Paramythia with the National Road to Ioannina, in the area of the settlement of Neraida. From the lower altitudes the course gradually climbs to Plakoti. The old road alignment offers a different experience of mountain transportation, through a landscape that changes as the altitude increases. At the 10th kilometer there is the possibility of heading to Plakoti and visiting the Byzantine settlement of Osdina. Temples are an important part of the Byzantine heritage. The surrounding area is also dominated by olive groves, which are a characteristic feature of the landscape and are associated with local production. "Boliana" olive oil is a typical product of the region and part of its gastronomic identity. A little lower is the river Kalamas. The river and the natural environment around it offer the possibility of touring and water activities, including boating. At the 14th kilometer, at an altitude of about 630 meters, is the stopping and viewing point. To the west, the view of the area of Kalamas is opened. At the 16th kilometer there is the possibility of a detour to the Holy Monastery of Michla. At the 20th kilometer is the Monument of National Resistance, while a little lower is the settlement of Polydrosos. There the visitor can visit the Folklore Museum and get to know elements of the local tradition and everyday life. The route ends in Vrosina, near Kalamas. In the area is the characteristic stone one-arched bridge, another element of traditional architecture. Paso Plakotis presents a different side of the Municipality of Souli. The area of Kalamas has a different natural and cultural image. Small settlements that before the construction of Egnatia had a strong presence, the Byzantine heritage, the local production, the traditional settlements and the history of the area compose the experience of the trip.
