Paso Souliou – Acheron

The route, with a total length of about 22 km, starts from the river Acheron, in the settlement of Glyki. Before starting the ascent to the mountains of Souli, it is worth a stop in the crystal clear waters of Acheron. According to Greek mythology, it was here that Death transported souls to the Underworld. Today, however, Acheron offers a completely different experience: the boats take visitors into a green, cool paradise, between the plane trees and the waters of the mythical river. After enjoying the coolness and the unique natural landscape, the route continues to the mountains of the Greek heroes, the mountains of Souliotes. Approximately 5.5 km after the starting point, at an altitude of about 440 meters, there is a stop and view point, from where the view to the Straits of Acheron and the historic Souli. The route continues through the mountainous landscape and, at about the 18th kilometer, reaches the historic site of Souli, where Pigadia and the Parliament of Souli are located. At the end of the route, under the plane trees where, according to tradition, the fighters of Souli were lying, there is the possibility of continuing the ascent to the Castle of Kiafas. It is a route that connects in just 22 km the mythical Acheron, nature, history and the heroic Souli.
